I’m Chara, a fashion industry veteran, and I’m on a mission to share my passion towards shifting the industry to an eco-friendly and socially conscious future in my blog, ‘A Sustainable Love’.
A little bit about me: I was born in Moldova, Russia and have lived in Paris, Israel and New York City. I call sunny Los Angeles my home now where I live with my photographer/graphic designer husband, Dave, dancer/artist daughter, Stella, and our pets.
The year 2020 has been a pivotal year. Major events and issues– from the global pandemic, social unrest, gender equity and climate change– have touched countless lives around the world. The enormity of these challenges underscores our global interdependence and the urgency with which we need to prioritize sustainability as a practice.
The fashion industry is a major contributor to water pollution, waste and social inequality.
Knowing this, I realized I couldn’t align my personal beliefs and values to current practices. I felt I could no longer be a part of the problem but needed to be part of the solution. Learning about sustainable fashion has made me challenge my own assumptions about what is normal.
We need to ask ourselves, “What kind of world will we leave for the next generation?”
So, what can you do to make a meaningful and positive change? I will discuss this in more depth in my blog. You, however, can start by asking yourself, “What do you really value?” There are many awesome companies that are making a huge difference right now. Designing with sustainability in mind, designers can make better decisions and retain their integrity. I’m excited to show you that you don’t have to sacrifice style for sustainability. Each and every one of us can make a difference. If everyone does their part, we’ll be well on our way towards a sustainable future: The future of fashion.
