KIDS, DIY & SUSTAINABILITY

Happy (half way thru!) Summer! I can’t tell you how happy my daughter was on her last day of zoom school! She was so ready for summer! Unfortunately summer has not been anything like it’s been for the 2nd summer in a row for her. The usual summer camp was not an option for our family so we had to come up with creative and fun things to do.

Since last year when the pandemic caused the school to close in March, 2020, I’ve focused on sustainability and changing my mindset (and lifestyle). This included educating myself and hoping to instill some of that in my daughter.

Being creative and making things was always something my daughter loved to do. Repurposing objects around the house and making them new has been pretty much our sustainable life around here.

Stella’s DIY projects have included: cutting up old or large tees and making them new again!, taking scraps of fabric and sewing basic stitches to make different tees, taking lots of art classes, exploring different drawing styles & painting, dyeing old toys and making them look brand new, making Harry Potter wands out of chopsticks & hot glue (we love YouTube!) then painting them, making fairy gardens, getting creative with cooking, making slime…there is just so much you can do with what you have already in the house! It’s almost endless.

What has your family done to stay sustainable? Any ideas you can share? Leave them in the comments! I will follow up soon with sustainable apparel brands for kids. Stay tuned.

Stay stylish & sustainable,
